Director X's Nuit Blanc installation stays in place until January 5th at Ontario Science Centre

A World Stopping Nuit Blanc Installation by Director X

By Stephen Weir: Spoiler Alert! Everyone dies, including the Sun, in Director X’s new art installation Life of the Earth and Death of the Sun.
On Saturday night and early Sunday morning, as part of the Nuit Blanche festival, the Ontario Science Centre stayed open to show-off Director X’s latest creation. Set in a large open space inside a lower level  gallery a huge white balloon hangs from the ceiling.  Using large-scale projectors, the orb becomes first a rotating and aging planet Earth and then it is our Sun evolving and eventually dying.
Both the Earth and the Sun are shown as if seen from space moving from the past to real time and into a not so great future.
On a near by wall a huge LED display’s   charts the collapse of the sun and show pictures of life on earth from the beginning of time, to now.
Throughout the night people trickled into the exhibition space, sitting on on the floor and leaning against the walls to immerse themselves in this massive multimedia work.  The Science Centre describes Director X’s Life of the Earth as” a reflection on humanity, environmental destruction and the planet's sixth and current mass extinction of plant and animal life.”
There were nearly 90 art installations in this year’s Nuit Blanche and Director X’s was one of the largest!  Over 300 artists were involved in the all night citywide festival put together in partnership with Toronto's arts community.
The companion piece, Death of the Sun, premiered originally at Nuit Blanche 2016.  The two projections have a life beyond the now ended art festival.  The installation will remain operational until January 5th 2020.
Canadian contemporary artist Director X (Brampton’s Julien Christian Lutz) is a renowned director/producer of popular music videos and feature films. For over twenty years he has directed some of the world’s best music video for artists including Drake, Justin Beiber, Rihanna, Jay-Z and Sean Paul.  Last year the 45-year old directed the
remake of the feature film Super Fly starring Trevor Jackson.
