(if you ignore that Mike Harris is # 25) By Stephen Weir In any other year, the release of the names of people receiving the Order of Ontario is greeted with loud cheers and applause. This year, the January 1st announcement brought out the Boo Birds and Nay Sayers because of one name on the list – former Ontario premier Mike Harris. “Go to Hell, Mike Harris and take the now devalued (Order of Ontario) award from your friends with you!” screamed the lead editorial in a recent edition of the Caribbean Camera newspaper. A group representing seven Ontario First Nations feels the same. They told the CBC that giving Harris the Order of Ontario is an “insult”, a “slap in the face “and a “step back in reconciliation.” Why the backlash? It all depends who you listen to. For the Caribbean community it is all about the cutbacks to social support that the Harris Government made when he was at the helm (1995–2002). Minister Audley Shaw  Jamaican Minister of Agriculture in Toronto To Meet Canada's Business Community Today By Stephen Weir / Caribbean Camera newspaper Audley Shaw Jamaica’s Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries will be speaking Thursday night to Canada’s business community about Jamaica’s move to become the Medical Marijuana Hub of the World. The Minister’s visit is being orchestrated by Timeless Herbal Care, a Canadian Jamaican producer of medical marijuana products and Bay Street’s Gravitas Financial Inc.    The Jamaican delegation will also be meeting with banks, the Federal government and companies involved within Canada’s medical marijuana industry. Canadian Jamaica company inks medicinal Ganja Cultivator Licence in New Kingston JA

Story Has Impact In Canada Too.     By Stephen Weir - Caribbean Camera On Friday morning Timeless Herbal Care Ltd held a press conference in Kingston, Jamaica to announce that it has recently received its license to grow and harvest medical marijuana in Jamaica.  Timeless Herbal Care is a Jamaican company run by Toronto lawyer Courtney Betty.  Former Ontario premier Ernie Eves is on the company’s board.
