Caribbean Carnival Costume Fashion Shows
The feathers, the fishnet stockings, the tights and the angel wings have been put away and now it’s the children’s turn to show their stuff on stage. Now that the eleven Toronto Mas Bands have held their late night costume launches, it is time weekend costume daytime launches for children wanting to take part in this year’s Junior Carnival and Family Day.
The costumes that
are being shown in the Mas Camps are what youngsters will be wearing when they
take part in the Junior Parade. Often called the Kiddies Costume Parade, the
event is put on the by Toronto’s Mas Bands and volunteers from the Toronto Caribbean
Carnival and will be held on Saturday July 21st at Neilson Park in
Scarborough.
Over the past
weekend two large Mas Camps staged parties and fashion show for youngsters and
their parents. Both the Toronto Revellers and Carnival Nationz report strong
interest from parents and their children in the costumes.
This weekend there
are at least three junior costumes launches . Of note are the afternoon launches that will be staged by Tribal
Carnival and Sun Lime on Saturday and Louis Saldenah’s Mas K Camp on Sunday.
The costume show is
being staged inside Tribal Carnival’s Mas Camp at 3401 McNicoll Ave (unit 8).
Doors open at 3pm with the actual fashion show beginning at 4pm. The party ends
at 6pm.
Sunlime
Mas is holding a costume launch and a mini-parade this Saturday afteroon. The launch party is at the Sunlime Mas Camp
at 3595 St Clair Avenue East (between Kennedy and Midland) in Scarborough.
It
all starts at 4pm with children on stage showing this year’s costumes. After the show the kids will head outdoors to
march in a parade.Sunlime spokesman Niles Koske told the Caribbean Camera that
“ if the weather holds up all kids are encouraged to wear
prior year costumes on Saturday and
are welcome to participate in the mini parade!”
Louis Saldenah’s Mas
K Camp is holding its launch this Sunday Afternoon at the Nugget Banquet Hall.
Their Kiddies Band Launch opens its doors at 12.15 with the actual fashion show
– modelled by kids – starts at 2.15 pm.
“ We are putting this show on for the kids
because we need to get the next generation involved in Carnival culture,” said
Louis Saldenah. “ We decided to have it on Sunday – after church – because
families have more time on their hands to sit back and enjoy life with their kids!”
Not all of the Mas
Camps have announced their junior carnival costume launches . The Caribbean
Camera will keep readers up-to-date as the launches are announced.
