Saturday Nite Is Alright for Fighting: Pirates vs Flaming Bird
Two stories about two Toronto Mas Bands Launching On Same Night
Reveller's Treasure Map Says Launch is
in North Toronto this Saturday
Early last month the Toronto Revellers
announced that their 2019 costume launch will be held this Saturday night in
Toronto. The theme for the costumed fete is Treasure Island.
The Saturday night date puts the
Revellers into head-to-head competition with the launch previously advertised
for Fantazia. Fantazia and their flaming phoenix logo announced a later
start-time for their fashion show (12.30am) for the carnival die-hards it might
be possible to catch both events.
"Please join us Saturday April 6,
as Toronto Revellers unveil our beautiful costumes for 2019 Peeks Toronto
Caribbean Carnival," wrote the band founder Jamaal Magloire.

With a signature online video showing a
blazing Phoenix writing the word Rebirth in the sky in flames, Will and Lisa
Morton are set to light up Toronto this Saturday night. The Morton’s are
marking the 10th anniversary of their Fantazia Carnival Mas Camp with a
hot hot costume launch that they call Rebirth.

The launch is being held at the large
Cinnamon Banquet Hall in Scarborough. Doors open early in the evening with the
actual fashion presentation beginning at 12.30 am on Sunday.
“ We will have up to 75 models on
stage; men and women of all shapes and sizes,” Michelle Brazier the stage
manager of the launch told the Caribbean Camera. “ After our launch last year
we had about 450 people signed up to play mas with us at the Toronto Caribbean
Carnival Grand Parade. This year our target is getting 600 people (into
costumes).”

Fantazia’s Mas camp is located at 3895
McNicoll only a few doors away from the Cinnamon Banquet Hall. It will
open later this month, as well; the band will have costume pick-ups available
in Hamilton, Brampton and mid-town Toronto.
“ In terms of the Caribbean, our
appeal is that we are very diverse. We are from all over, Trinidad, St.
Vincent, the Bahamas, St Kitts and Nevis. Wherever you are from, you will
find friends here!”
In 2009 when Will and Lisa Morton formed
Fantazia, they designed all of the costumes. This year almost half of the
sections will feature their costumes, the rest of the sections are longtime
members of Fantazia.
“For Will and Lisa, many of the costumes will be riffs on their best designs from the past decades,” continued Brazier. “The other sections are looking inward and being reborn with a different (and exciting) view on life.”
