Niagara Falls gets 10,000 Carnival Fans

--> City already looking forward to 2019 By Stephen Weir  Photos by Craigg Slowly While Torontonians have already put away their costumes for another year, in Niagara Falls, last weekend close to 10,000 tourists and locals alike had some Caribana schooling. This is the third year that the Niagara Caribbean Festival has been held in Niagara Falls.   Some of Toronto’s top Mas Models joined the musical group Kobo Town, Connector, the P.K. Hummingbird Steel Orchestra and a fleet of food trucks to hold a carnival pop-up in the Queen Victoria Park directly opposite the American and Canadian Horseshoe Falls . This is the third year that the Caribbean Community Engagement group –   in partnership with the Niagara Parks Commission – has held the   Caribana inspired festival. Weekend Festival is on the move

Scarborough Festival Is On The Move  notice written for Caribbean Camera Due to the overwhelming pre-event interest in the coming 4th Annual TD Presents: Scarborough Community Multicultural Festival, organizers have moved the location for the event.   Originally scheduled to take place at Centennial Park, it will now be held at the MasarykTown Park , on the Scarborough Golf Club Road in Scarborough. The free festival is billed as being “three-days of excitement and fun and will be an explosion of food, culture and diversity.” The fete will feature music and dance from around the world. It runs August 24-26, 10am -11pm The festival motto is “Celebrating Scarborough Rich Culture”. The stage presentations are hosted by radio station G98.7's Miss Tatiana King – (MissGO2Girl.com) along with Marlon Palmer and Bollywood Star Raman Shar. --> Cover for Kid's Parade book by Don Moreland  The Faces Of This Year's Festivals By Stephen Weir For the past two-weeks photographer Don Moreland has been pouring over the thousands of photographs that he and his team of photographers took at this year’s Toronto Caribbean Carnival Grand Parade, the Children’s Parade and the King and Queen Competition.   By this weekend his first copies of his coffee table photography books about the just completed carnival will begin to roll off the presses. “I am quite proud of our parade photographs. There were three of us taking pictures for the book. We spread ourselves around the route and got every section in each of the eleven bands that took part in the parade,” Don Moreland told the Camera. “If you went down the road this year, your photograph is in all likelihood in our Grand Parade photography book.   The same holds true for the Kiddies Parade and the King and Queen Show.” King and Queen Book Cover

Kobo Town and Carnival preparing to make Niagara Falls Jump Up To A Caribbean Beat

KOBO TOWN - stephen weir The  Niagara Caribbean Festival bringing Carnival to the Falls By Stephen Weir While Torontonians have already put away their costumes for another year, in Niagara Falls, the Caribana schooling is just about to begin.   Tomorrow morning the musical group Kobo Town, a fleet of food trucks and a busload of parade veterans will be heading down the QEW to a famous Niagara Falls park to teach tourists how to jump up and get down to the sounds and sights of Canada’s carnival scene. The Niagara Caribbean Festival , a weekend celebration of Caribbean music, dance, and Carnival mas costumes starts at 3pm on Friday August 17th and continues to Sunday August 19th.   The free festival, this year starring a pair of Juno Award winning musical acts and the Canadian Calypso Monarch will be held in the Queen Victoria Park directly opposite the American and Canadian Horseshoe Falls.
