Mas Camp Costume Launch Off Duty In Scarborough

D’New Regulars will be Off-Duty Next Sunday Night By Stephen Weir    When it comes to Carnival Canada’s longest serving Mas Man, Michael Williams ( pictured below ) he is never off duty, except next Sunday. He started the D’Regulars in 1973 and now 49-years later with a slightly different name, he will be presenting a costume launch for this year’s Mas Band. Canada’s Armed Forces generals are not probably going to like what William’s troop of models are going to be wearing on stage at the Spade Bar & Lounge. But given that the D New Regulars theme is “Off Duty”, enlisted or not, Soca party people will want to jump up and jump in.   “We have five sections of which four of them tie right into military uniforms,” explained Williams. Two sections have naval themed mas costumes (think male and female white navy uniform tops and of course skimpy bottoms)and two sections based on camo army fatigues.   “I designed all of the costumes and for the fifth section I looked back into the old day

It Was A Three for Three Junior Carnival Weekend By Stephen Weir  Photographs by Don Moreland It started Friday night and ended early Sunday evening. Three days. Three Junior Carnival costume launches. It all played out this past weekend in Scarborough. D’ New Regulars & Foreva Carnival, Venom Carnival and Epic Carnival held parties and costume shows for youngsters interested in taking part in the Junior Carnival Parade later this summer. About 50 parents and their children came to the Nugget Avenue Twilight Restaurant early Friday evening to see the junior costumes designed by D’New Regulars & Foreva Carnival. It was a free event – complete with food and face painting - to show children what costumes they could wear in the coming July 21 st Junior Carnival Parade in Malvern as part of the Toronto Caribbean Carnival. The launch fashion show got off to a late start with about 20 children taking to the stage at 8pm just when the fete was suppose to end.   The kids

Tis The Season And The Caribbean Camera Was There Michael Williams and the Foreva Carnival models in the new Tees By Stephen Weir for the Caribbean Camera With Carnival Season arriving in Toronto, Mas Camps are beginning to introduce their new themes and look.   Michael Williams, the founder of D’New Regulars Foreva Carnival, had a T-shirt photo shoot. Mr. Williams and D’New Regulars are one of the longest running competitive bands in the annual Toronto Caribbean Carnival.   This year the band’s theme is based on John John, a part of Trinidad’s capital, Port of Spain. On Friday, the band’s Foreva Carnival models posed with Mr. Williams wearing their new signature t-shirt “ Fresh Out of John John. Photographs by Antony Berot.
